It’s that time of year where all of us paint and color geeks eagerly await the paint companies’ picks for the annual colors of the year. Some of the paint companies have already announced their colors and I am so excited with the picks so far! The 2018 Colors of the Year are all fantastic colors that I know will inspire you!
BEHR just came out with their 2018 Color of the Year pick. It’s called “In the Moment” and it’s such a perfect name because blue/green/gray colors are truly the hottest “In the Moment” color right now!

This blue/green/gray color is one of the most popular hues right now with consumers because it’s soothing and so versatile. It’s also a fantastic color for anywhere in your home, including: exterior, interior, cabinets, etc.. This color would be GORGEOUS on a kitchen island!
Need a new front door color? “In the Moment” is stunning on this front door!
In the Moment is also a beautiful interior wall color!
Oh the possibilities with this gorgeous color!
Glidden ‘s 2018 Color of the Year and it’s another fantastic color selection and it’s “Deep Onyx”.

Again, another color that I’m really excited about!
Deep Onyx is one of those almost blacks that I have been talking about on the blog over the years that is perfect for interior doors, exterior and cabinetry. Almost blacks are a great alternative to a strong true black because the gray in the undertone helps diffuse the boldness of black and I think it looks so much better than a true black. It’s also the perfect color for an interior accent wall!
Brooklyn Limestone used Glidden’s Deep Onyx on her ceiling and WOW!! This color is so rich and fabulous!

So if you need an almost black color, Glidden’s Deep Onyx is for sure a beautiful color to consider!
Speaking of beautiful “almost blacks”, PPG Paints 2018 Color of the Year is a stunning almost black called “Black Flame”.

PPG Paints®

PPG Paints’ Black Flame is a rich almost black with a beautiful indigo undertone. Interesting that indigo has both a blue and violet undertone, so this is truly a deep and rich color that is absolutely stunning on the wall!
PPG Paints Black Flame would be a great accent wall color or I could see it in a powder room with brass fixtures.
I think out of all the paint companies color picks, PPG Paints Black Flame is the best color representation of where (I think) we are heading in color in the next couple of years. Dark, rich accent colors on our walls, cabinetry and furniture balanced/complimented with light neutrals is what I think we’ll be seeing more of in 2018 and beyond. In fact, I saw a lot similar colors used on accent walls and cabinetry during the Salt Lake Parade of Homes a couple weeks ago.
And yes! Still speaking of almost black, Olympic Paint also announced their 2018 Color of the Year and it’s “Black Magic”. Are you seeing the pattern here among the paint companies?

Black Magic is the darkest of all the almost black 2018 Colors of the Year. It’s very close to a traditional black but it has a grey undertone that helps diffuse the boldness of a tradtional black.
Dutch Boy Paints just announced their 2018 Color of the Year and surprise! It’s not black! It’s called Sandstone and it’s a beautiful warm greige.

Benjamin Moore’s 2018 Color of the Year is called “Caliente”. I did not see this coming and was very surprised to see their pick is red. What do you guys think?

Benjamin Moore®

Benjamin Moore’s 2017 Color of the Year — Shadow — was one of the first color predictions to break away from the neutrals that have ruled for years, and now, the company is back with another shocking hue for its 2018 Color of the Year. Introducing: Caliente AF-290.
“Strong, radiant and full of energy, Caliente AF-290 is total confidence. It is pleasing, passionate and makes people feel special, like ‘red carpet treatment,'” said Ellen O’Neill, Benjamin Moore Director of Strategic Design Intelligence. “Whether used as one note or on four walls, the spirited personality of red turns heads signaling surprise and adventure. The eye can’t help but follow its bold strokes.”
Based on design industry professionals’ reactions to other bold choices this year, like Sherwin-Williams’ Oceanside and Glidden Paint’s Deep Onyx, we weren’t surprised to find out designers are buzzing over this statement hue. “Hot. Hot. Hot. I love a deep saturated color whenever and wherever I can find on. This shade of red sets my soul on fire!” says interior designer Scot Meacham Wood.
And contrary to popular opinion, red is incredibly versatile when used as an accent color and when it’s part of a complimentary palette. To prove it, Benjamin Moore showcased Caliente in a mid-century modern room, a farmhouse and a modern space — and it looks stunning in each and every one.
The company also unveiled a palette of 23 additional hues (which you can see here) they believe will enliven any room by adding depth and energy. We’re particularly excited about Golden Retriever and Texas rose.
Dunn Edwards 2018 Color of the Year is called “The Green Hour”, which is a beautiful and rich green/blue teal color.

Sherwin Williams 2018 Color of the Year is called Oceanside. Another beautiful green/blue teal color.

Sherwin-Williams®

Move over, neutrals: Sherwin-Williams just announced its 2018 Color of the Year pick and it’s the opposite of muted and subtle. The company says when picking a hue prediction for 2018, it wanted to speak to the public’s growing desire for color that’s “both accessible and elusive.” The results: a deep and moody shade called Oceanside.
“People today have a growing sense of adventure, and it is making its way into even the coziest corners of our homes. We are craving things that remind us of bright folklore, like mermaids and expeditions across continents,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams. “Oceanside is the color of wanderlust right in our own homes.”
Even though in recent years most colors predictions included toned-down neutrals, Sherwin-Williams isn’t the only company to go bold this year. Glidden Paint picked Deep Onyx, a no-fuss shade of black that encourages a “less is more” approach to decor. Meanwhile, Olympic Paints & Stains says to watch out for Black Magic. According to current trends, now is the time to take color risks.
So what do you guys think? Which 2018 Color of the Year is your favorite color? Honestly, this is the first time that I can say that I love them all for various reasons/different uses in spaces.
